Preparing the soil for the plant nursery

One of the first steps in APAF’s agroforestry training in Southern Africa was to prepare the nursery for seed sowing.
This required identifying local fertilizer trees similar to the seeds to be planted, in order to recover soil near the roots. The aim was to recover the nodules produced by fertilizer trees and which create bacterias benefiting the development of the seeds. The season was not the most favorable during the training, and the cool temperature did not help the presence of these nodules, and we had to take pieces of roots that we chopped and mixed with ground taken under the trees.
This mixture was added to the soil to promote plant growth.
