Preparing soil for the garden in Rufisque, Senegal

To fill the trays of culture of the garden of the school of the Petits Princes in Rufisque, we used several organic components.

First, we went to a vacant lot of land in the neighborhood to find tree branches that we cut into very small pieces about ten centimeters long. These will be placed at the bottom of the containers to constitute a water reserve. We then collected potting soil made from animal manure, peanut shells and decomposed plants, made by a local nurseryman. With the children of the school, we sifted this compost: the coarser materials were placed at the bottom of the trays and the finer ones on the surface.  Some of the fine soil will also be used for the nurseries.
